While reflecting upon the idea of identity as continuous, interrelational acts of identification with our surroundings,
I wrote a script of 30 + 1 scenes from my real life relations, or just brief meetings, with people that basically had changed
my mental, spiritual, ideological, psychological direction in life. And my “identity”.
31 was = my age in 2010 according to the roman suncalendar, 30 was = my age according to the chinese lunar calendar.
Afterwards, I asked 7 Hollywood actors to perform the script with no prior rehearsals. While shooting, I also interviewed
them about their profesional acting techniques. Interestingly, they almost seemed too secure or acting while being themselves,
while their unprepared, insecure performances of my script revealed strong emotions. After all, an actor is a professional imitator
of identification.
