THE SILENT RETREAT // How to write an internalized play [2011]

Installationviews // photo: Timme Hovind

Installation/durational performance: 3 performers / 7 days, chiffon curtain, living materials, food, water, 2 videoprojectors, computer, meditation bell.

I had grown to find festivals, biennials and art-audiences more and more hungry for party-performances and history-referential wikipedia-art-concepts.
I was longing for introversion and a state of calm awareness. So I build a violet, silent space that would house me and 2 other performers for 7 days.
The violet color radiates in the midst of yin and yang as well as representing the highest chakra [spirituality].
We could write our thoughts down on a computer, projecting a live-feed onto the floor outside of the circle for the audience to read.
Each day, we where given a short presentation of a psycho-drama technique, to inspire us in the interpersonal energies we would create among us.
These where: Applied sociometry, Role Reversals, Mirroring, Soliloquy, Doubling, Systemic Constellations, Drama.
Maybe I would be able to heal my own disconnected mind and in the process, heal a collective, disconnected mindset.
