MISS JIN PRESENTS THE UNWED MOTHERS [2009]

Production still. Photo: Andreas Rosforth / Installation view, "Boarding Bridges", Kring Art Space, Seoul, South Korea.
5 channel videoinstallation, 17:00 min., displayed on synchronised 45' flatscreens placed on black floor, surround sound.
During the production of this project, everybody in the team was involved in the conceptualisation, or the storytelling. The crew
engaged in meditation before and during the shots, and my changing roles and personas, intentionalities, where collectively
imagined and made out of the mutiplicity of backgrounds that where present in the team. This effort can be seen as a transparency
of the whole idea of an artist leading a large scale production, collecting and creating images out of non-linear memory and context,
method and ideologies. The popular and the silenced positions giving life and agent to each other in nameless, placeless, temporary roleplays and performances of another. Another story, from far away. Multilingual path.
The Leader-she, Mother, Other, korean Shaman.
It unfolds. Unwed. Circular, un-finished, un-told, un-seen. Articulated in a hidden, un-rationalised language. Is it the messy,
chaotic language, pigeon, creole of another? Or a vessel of something else, a calling for paradigms, ideologies shifting, releasing
their grip? Shaken out of the shangri-la, dreamlike imagination of the children that come from the sky – the healthy, loving,
grateful, beautiful, adaptable, intelligent, happy children? I will unfold and fulfill the life pupose and the good-willed embrace of
your nation? Visions of storylines tick in from marginal places, inter-connect and translate. Instrumentalised at times and copied.
To copy lived experiences while not acknowledging them in public. What a sadness and a hidden revelation at the same time.
For isn´t it the lack of public acknowledgement, that keeps un-wanted stories mobile and suffocated, speachless, supportless at the same time?
The Voice-less - distributed, seen, performed
The cycle of story. Me, unwed. She, not a dead mother. He, not a dead father. Alive! Dreaming of a lost child. Both lost in affiliations that limit
expressions of this face and directions of thAT life. She never even IMAGINES for herself anymore, because the unpublished thoughts and works
lie there, rotting like memories washed in the acidious timeframe of success criteria, of conventions of relevance. Un-relevant. Sufferings of those
un-important. Those with no audience of means, of knowledge to read. To write, to fulfill the lives of those important? Those important –
important only in certain frames of time! Suppressions leave everybody in this triangle suffer, cut off from each other. Un-communicated.
Documented by a photographer or someone. Not just anyone. Engaged in a performance, mostly linked to an ideology. Un-conscious.
