REVIEWS

Three talents on the move

“`Do something for your country; LEAVE!`. “

“That is the ending of Jette Hye Jin Mortensen´s 25 min. film `New Songbooks`, exhibited right now at Spring 2006. By sampling and twisting the music of Carl Nielsen into new melodies, and creating raw confrontations between `new`and `old` danes, the only 25-year old artist has created a strong critique towards todays society and government, questioning the notion of `danish`.”

“At the same time, she is challenging common view of a true national art, that was purely constructed in the 1800th century to strengthen the danish nation. The confrontational and insisting film is of high technical quality and is part of a remarkable installation with 8 handsewn uniforms...."

Art Critic Henrik Broch-Lips, review in AArhus Stifttidende, Spring 2006.

KP has openend”

“...I.e. Jette Hye Jin Mortensens videofilm. She is obviously of another ethnicity than danish. And she is sitting there, talking about Carl Nielsen as her grandfather. I think that is putting into question a lot of todays debate in Denmark about culture values, and it also raises the question: who are the `real`danes?..."

Artist Pia Rönnicke to journalist Marianne Pilegaard, AArhus Stifttidende, KP 2005.

Coloristic and very feminine”

“...A special focus on women stereotypes, including the vulnerable situation of asian women and adoptees, is found in Jette Hye Jin Mortensen´s both provoking and serious videoworks Àdapted Asian Women`and `Adapted - Adopted` with a youthful, female voice..".

Journalist Eva Pohl, review in Berlingske Tidende, KE 2004.
